Today Is.

HARI RAYA AIDILADHA!

It's great to hear the takbir again this morning at the mosque.

I remember a bit about this day....it used to be so much more happening for me as a kid.

Back when I lived in West Coast Drive, my dad, uncles and grandpas will gather at my void deck together with the rest of the Muslim community around the neighbourhood to distribute the meat from the korban.

If I recall correctly, they don't perform the korban itself downstairs....but somewhere else. I ain't sure where.... I never woke up early enough to follow my dad to the place but my other dude cousins went. :(

Anyway, in the morning, they'll leave in a big lorry headed for the place where they perform the korban...

Over there, one of my dude cousins who went told me about how they slit the throats of the sheep....

"BISMILLAHIRAHMANIRAHIM.." (In the name of God, most Gracious and most Compassionate)
*slit*
*blood squirts out from arteries*

It sounds messed up....but trust me this is THE most humane way of slaughtering sheep. Nothing else comes near.

So after the sheep are sacrificed.... I guess they're skinned and gutted and the rest is brought back on the big lorry..... now headed back to West Coast!

So they meet up with the rest of the community at my void deck.... and they start cutting up all the meat for distribution.

As a kid, it's kinda friggin' cool to see all the pakciks with butcher knives, choppers and all sorts of cutting tools to make the job easier. I swear there was even a pakcik who used some sort of chainsaw.

Oooooooh... I used to remember that sheep smell. It will linger on for about 2 weeks before disappearing...

After all the meat's given away....they clean up the whole place..... or else it will be bloody dirty. Heh Heh. SeewhatIdidthere.

Our families will all gather at my grandpa's.... then my uncles will show up with awesome stuff.... like the sheep's eyeball. HAHAHA! AND they get the best cuts.

*sigh* those were the days...
